Barbosa is a family company established in San Miguel de Allende, a city in central Mexico, well known as a in the state of Guanajuato, is formed by brothers and sisters plus friends and coworkers, their family and a team that are making Barbosa their life’s work.
Barbosa was born from love, devotion and strives to capture forms found in Mexico’s diverse flora and fauna as well as to transform concepts from a rich art history, which dates back to a time before big discovery of the Americas, and blending them with different techniques and materials to create truly unique pieces that lend themselves well too many fashion trends.
Felipe Barbosa came up with the idea of creating jewelry from his drawings, and to the producing them so he could be able to share his creations.
The business carries the name “Don Barbosa”, with the Spanish word “Don” which means a heavenly gift” we receive when we are born. Every single piece is totally handmade.
In 1986 Felipe Barbosa López came up with the idea of creating jewelry from his drawings, and to the producing them so he could be able to share his creations.
He launched a small, but startling jewelry collection in a simple wooden shack. Two years later he makes his first entry into the American market with a company Best Friends which are overwhelmed by the originality and refinement of Felipe’s jewelry after their first order, which he was able to produce with the help of his family. Over time, they will constitute today’s team of outstanding craftsmen.
Three years later, Felipe’s efforts, determination, fervor bear fruit and permits to own more spaces for work and as well to obtain more order. Over the years, Felipe has successfully completed a multitude of professional training courses and acquire an outstanding number of diplomas and certificates.
What started as a little workshop where only family worked became a source of work for many families from San Miguel de Allende. Felipe’s namesake jewelry collections, called “Barbosa ”, and now they are sold throughout the USA, Mexico and Canada and worn by entertainers from the international arts scene.
Recenlty, Barbosa received a great honor and was entrusted with the design and manufacturing of the Silver Cross Award for the International Film Festival Expresión en Corto that traditionally takes place every year at Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende.
